The Importance of Community

Welcome

Hello, Readers! E. Scott Clevenger here, guest star on the blog of Shel Schneider and happy to be contributing!

When Shel put out the request to see if anyone was willing or able to participate in this Indie Blog experience, I was happy to oblige and become a part of this community project. The reason being… the community.

Being Part of an Independent Artist Community

First, a brief introduction to new people who I am reaching for the first time. My name is E. Scott Clevenger, and combined with my co-author, Greyson Black, we’ve published our first book “War of Night” in November of 2024. We’ve been working on the project for nearly 5 years, painstakingly marching towards our goals. “War of Night” is the first book in a 4 part series and is our debut novel (both as a co-authored experience and as individual authors). Greyson has been writing longer than I have, and has had some serialized work available on independent platforms, but nothing to the scale of what we accomplished.

Along this journey, we’ve reached several “speed bumps” and had to make some considerable changes. Things like using a “shared penname,” traditional v. self publishing v. indie publishing, expectations, costs, goals, and so much more. Throughout the process we’ve made mistakes, but also achieved so many wonderful things. Much of which is due to the independent artist and author community we’ve cultivated along the way.

I’d like to share that journey and story with each and every one of you. If you have questions, if there’s a part of this process that you’re just starting out on and feel insight would be helpful, drop a comment below! I’ll be collecting this information and tailoring the tale to (hopefully) provide my view on being and independent publisher and being a member of this growing and thriving artist community!

Thank you for your attention, and until next time…

Be Kind.

E. Scott Clevenger

Nestled in the serene suburbs of Chicago, one half of Sainan Books, E. Scott Clevenger draws inspiration from the extraordinary bonds that shape his life. As a husband and father of two boys, Scott’s tales are woven with the threads of family love and the magical moments that define his characters. Scott spends time with his wife and children in the Chicago suburbs. He is still an avid reader, a lover of RPGs, and stories of all types. He still attends his Sunday and Tuesday night game sessions, and loves to annoy the table with pop-culture references and broken song lyrics.
